South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) is an education service center located in Camden, AR. SCSC is composed of 13 school districts from 4 counties in the south central part of Arkansas. SCSC has many on-going programs available for teachers and administrators.
MacBook Project Year I
MacBook Project Year 2
Administrators' Conference: The annual Administrators' Conference is held June 28-30, 2010, at Lake DeGray Lodge. Leadership teams from local districts attend the conference which focuses on leadership strategies, data disaggregation, educational technology, and parental involvement. The teams are provided time for collaboration as a district team and also by job alike groups.
- March 30-31 - South Central Service Cooperative Professional Development Printed Catalog will be delivered to superintendents.
- April 1 - South Central Service Cooperative Professional Development Catalog is published on escworks.
- May 15 - South Central Service Cooperative Professional Development Catalog will be be revised and distributed to superintendents through media.
Opportunities for Growth
- MacBook Class: The MacBook Project is a two-year commitment among the local school districts participating in the SCSC Math/Science/Technology Consortium and South Central Co-Op. The focus this year has been building wikis for the SCSC as well as for the teacher's classroom. Waterways was the theme for the SCSC's wiki. The wiki includes information, photographs, and resources to help local students understand how waterways in Arkansas are connect to surrounding states. Each team was provided a MacBook computer, backpack, and office software.
- Science Leadership Grant: A three-year Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant provide teachers in the South Central Service Cooperative and Southwest Education Cooperative the opportunity to focus on building capacity through science leaders in our local districts. Although the grant is in the final year, the science leaders have decided to continue meeting during the summer through the Science Leadership Master Coaches Training.
- Measurement Grant: During the summer, teachers will begin the third year of the three-year Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant for K-12 Measurement. The grant is a partnership among the local school districts, Southern Arkansas University, and South Central Co-Op.
- Problem Solving Grant: During the summer, teachers will begin the second year of the three-year Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant for Secondary Problem Solving. The grant is a partnership among the local school districts, Southern Arkansas University, the University of Central Arkansas and South Central Co-Op.
- Academic Alliance: Teachers meet monthly at South Central Service Cooperative to discuss issues affecting education. The meetings allow teachers from the local school districts to share ideas and build a networking system among the teachers.
Paraprofessional Training

The Core Training is comprised of following three (3) components:

Roles & Responsibilities of Paraprofessionals: Explains, discusses and defines the roles and responsibilities of the teacher and the paraprofessional. It is recommended that the teacher and paraprofessional attend the session together.

Instructing Students with Disabilities: Discusses strategies for instructional techniques. Discipline and classroom management are included.

Legal Aspects of Educating Children and Youth with Disabilities: Reviews IDEA, ADA, and 504 regulations.

Early Childhood: Addresses specific characteristics and traits of infants, toddlers and young children from ages 0-5 to include behavior and instructional techniques. (Prerequisite: Core)

Secondary Module: Discusses the characteristics and traits affecting paraprofessionals working at the secondary level to include Work Experience programs. (Prerequisite: Core)

Cultural Awareness Module: Discusses the diversity addressed in our society and schools today. (Prerequisite: Core)

Behavior Module: Presents various research based around the issues of behavior and children in the classroom. (Prerequisite: Core)

Special Health Care Module: Addresses issues on how to ensure safe and effective services for children with special health care needs and the safety of the paraprofessional. (Prerequisite: Core)

English Language Learners (ELL): Provides awareness of the many factors that affect learning for students with disabilities that have English as a second language. (Prerequisite: Core)

Literacy Module: The goals of this module are to gain an awareness and understanding of Arkansas initiatives; to understand the role of the five essential elements of literacy; to understand how to apply systematic and direct practice to assist students in acquiring literacy skills; and how to apply instructional techniques and content that will reinforce effective reading instruction.

Supervising Teacher Module: Addresses how a teacher plans for, assigns, and delegates tasks to paraprofessionals working in a classroom.
